BACKGROUND

Through the years many events have shaped my belief system, honed my skills as a craftsman, and caused me to develop a greater appreciation for Mother Earth. As an artist, I am self-taught, both as a sculptor and as a writer.

In high school, the artisan in me emerged, or the talent showed itself. Before graduating from high school, my work was shown and sold at the Sasha Brostoff gallery in Los Angeles. However, I was called by a higher power, Uncle Sam, to serve my country. This took me off the art track, but provided me with depth.

Starting as a Private, I eventually rose to the ranks as a senior officer. As an enlisted soldier, I toured the Louvre in Paris, numerous cathedrals in England, and visited Michelangelo's work in Florence. Later, as an officer, I was taught to write in short and concise terms. I designed, developed, and produced for worldwide distribution, a training board game that reinforced technical skills, incorporated leadership skills, and bolstered teamwork. After analyzing the game needs, I built a prototype, and marketed its benefits. This saved over $6,000 each time the game was played. Later, I spent four years teaching and mentoring young minds to become leaders through the Army Reserve Officers Training Corps. My experience in the private sector has taught me the details of business management and marketing.

Throughout the years I have greatly enjoyed writing either creatively or technically. Therefore, I am branching out not just as a sculptor, but also as a writer. My writings are short and concise paintings of events or philosophies. Both are spiritually motivated and guided. Not by a specific religion, but by my growth and learning.

Just prior to the 2001 Northwest Stone Sculptors Association symposium at Camp Brotherhood, my wife encouraged me to chisel the chip off my shoulder. Since that time I have spent a year under the tutelage of Sabah Al-Dhaler. And, now you see the results.
